Wong Kar-Wai calendar - April 2005

WKW calendar - April 2005

WKW calendar for April 2005 by me.

I wrote some code to grab one frame of In the Mood for Love every second, then draw one vertical line per frame using the color of the frame's center pixel. The resulting image represents the entire film with around 5900 lines, each line representing one second of the film.

sweet! what is on the vertical axis?

Brightness. I tweaked the drawing code to get a nice spectrum and fadeout at the top and the bottom.

looks lovely. interesting that just the middle pixel gives you so much information when you see it across the whole film.

what scenes do the bright red/pink stripes at the beginning, middle, end correspond to?

The red/pink stripes at the beginning and the end are from the opening and closing credits: WKW used white Chinese text on red background.

Not sure about the middle one. I checked the original output image, and it starts around 27 minutes into the movie.
