Circlesquare - Songs About Dancing and Drugs

Tonight, the elegiac new album by Circlesquare became my inaugural case of love-at-first-hearing in 2009, despite my knowing little about dancing and even less about drugs. Neon lights come to mind: depending on the scene, they can be bright or hazy, glittering or flickering, exuberant or ominous. If Cut Copy's In Ghost Colours embodied the former picture, this record paints the latter. Other namechecks might include Joy Division, Junior Boys, Matthew Dear. Oddly, some Red House Painters too, to my ear.
