Injuries suck

A bum left knee kept me out of a very good three-set volleyball match tonight. The game was between my intramural team and the team that beat us in the finals last year. And just like last year, the opposing team was laden with varsity-team ringers and an alum who coaches (!) the varsity team. Still, my team put up a fight: after losing the first set, we dominated the second, but succumbed in the third.

Afterwards, Manfred (teammate and vball buddy) needled me gently for not suiting up and at least trying to play thru the pain. He told me the team really needed me with my height and speed on the block. A nice compliment, for sure, but a bittersweet one: I think he badly wanted to avenge last year's loss and was frustrated that I couldn't help. Oh well. There's always the playoffs.

I hope my knee heals in time for Saturday's co-ed triples tournament.
